Hoo Hoo loves you baby?

So I've seen so many of the cute little owls everywhere and I decided to try my hand at one.
Perfect reason to make one?  My sweet little niece who loves coming to her Aunt Gigi's house!

Isn't she sweet?
I had some white minky left over from an order and the cutest pale pink paisley fabric!
I thought that would be perfect!

I also had some matching stripped fabric for the eyes and nose and did my first try at applique!
I appliqued everything to the minky, sewed the button eyes on, sewed and stuffed...
...and that's all she wrote.

So stink'n cute!  And soft...I know she'll love it!

The Wheels on the Bus go Round and Round!

So I loved my Firetruck so much that I just couldn't stop there...
I give you The School Bus!
Jack saw me making it and was so interested, so I decided to let him keep it!

So very easy, the same basic method as the Firetruck.  But I went ahead and made a tutorial with actual pics and a pattern, if needed, for the School Bus.

If you want the pattern, email me because my computer is being dumb and won't upload the pics.
What you need:
coordinating yellow fabrics
black/white fabrics for the wheels
red fabric scrap for the front
sewing machine, scissors, thread, etc.

First, cut out the pattern.  Lay it out on your main fabric (right sides together) and cut.

Make sure you have a baby toddling around your feet the entire time you sew this pillow!

Cut out a few strips of your other yellow fabric 2" wide as long as you need.  Don't make my mistake of only cutting 2 and finding I had to add a 3rd and by then, couldn't get a measurement to give you...oops.

Next, cut out all your pieces to add to the front of your school bus and lay out the design.
Then sew it all down.
I used black felt for the windows, scrap black polka for the wheels with white felt in the middle, red felt for the stop sign, and scrap red fabric for the reflecting line thingy...not sure what that's called but our buses around town have 'em.

I used a zig zag for most of the stitching cuz I love the look.

Then, sew the 2" strips together (right sides facing) to "belt " around the pillow.  Again, I ended up cutting a 3rd strip so I don't have an accurate measurement for ya.  I would say at least 26" long...then you could just cut of the access.

Then, pin the "belt" around the bus giving a little extra slack around the corners.  Then sew one side into place.
It gets a little tricky but not too bad...I found that I would manually turn the wheel around the tight areas so I didn't accidentally stitch out of place.  Then pin and sew the other side.  Leave a hole to turn inside out.

Stuff and whip stitch the hole closed.
All done!  The cutest little pillow on the block!

Jack won't put it down!

Toot Toot Tut

So I saw this at Boy Oh Boy Oh Boy...
and thought, "That is so cute...but I don't have anyone to make one for...?"
(Jack is a little too old and Sam just likes playing with Jacks toys)

Oh well...then yesterday, my boss announces that it was his sons 1st birthday!!
I knew exactly what I wanted to do for little Jackson!

I am so in love with it!
I used blue felt for the window, yellow flannel for the ladder, and white minky fabric in the wheels...
Lots of fun color, pattern, and textures!
Perfect for a 1st Birthday!
You could head over to Boy Oh Boy Oh Boy to see where she got the tut from.
I didn't follow the tut though...just sorta winged it.
What you need:
Coordinating fabrics with color and texture
sewing machine
thread, pins, needle, scissors, etc.

Its very easy:
Step 1:  I cut out a pattern in the basic shape of a fire truck

Step 2:  Cut the fabric - 2 sides for your truck (I will draw out a pattern to post later)

Step 3:  Cut a 2" wide strip of fabric to "wrap" around your truck (make sure its long enough to go ll the way around)

Step 4:  Sew all of your embellishments onto the main side of your truck

Step 5:  Pin the strip of fabric to one side of your truck and sew into place (right side in)

Step 6: Pin the other side of your truck (right side in) to the strip and sew into place.  Leave a hole to turn right side out.

Step 7:  Turn right side out, stuff and whip stitch the hole closed.
All done!
Thanks Stacey for all the inspiration!!!  Can't wait to make another!
Jackson loved the new gift!

Whatever Wednesday #2

So we had to do some maintenance on our computer and discovered hoards of duplicates in all of our pictures...so naturally, we had to go thru and weed out all the extras...
which led me to these old favs of Jack when he was little:

Wow Jack...think you're a bit too big for that!?

Baby Jack wearing daddy's hat!

Daddy and little Jack snuggling...awwwwww!
Enjoy!

Purple City, Dark City

So here is the post for my recent painting I mentioned here.

I have to be honest, when I found out I was chosen to teach this painting in class...I was less than thrilled.
Not my thing, not my style...what can I say.

But I got started and the further I went, the more I liked it!  I mean it reminds me of Batman or Sin City or something...right?  I half expect to see a figure in a cape at the top of the buildings!

Here are a few close ups...
I kinda made up my own little story with this painting...This is the darkest, seediest part of the city...a mysterious vibe surrounds it.
I have to say that I just live it now.  Go figure?

Ad Space Giveaway WINNER!!!

Our other lovely winner from the Mad Skills Monday Ad Space Giveaway is
The Nifty Nest!
Isn't the name nifty??  Sorry...I just had to :)

So this is an awesome blog with tons of fun crafty ideas to spruce up the house!
Here is a little about her...

I started The Nifty Nest after deciding that I wanted to make this home that we are leasing, more like my own. I know I can't paint the walls and decorate in that way, so I figured if I could expel my creative side into furniture, wall hangings, and decorative pieces I could still make this place a home for us.

Plenty of inspiration!  Check out this Superhero Cape!?  So cool.
And she's taking custom orders too!!!

Ad Space Giveaway WINNER!!!

So I announced the 2 winners from last weeks Mad Skills Monday Ad Space Giveaway...
now its time to let them bask in all the glory!

Rubies and Pearls is a cute little blog with plenty to offer!
Here's what she has to say...

I started Rubies and Pearls as an outlet, and a way to archive my projects. But as I've put more time into Rubies and Pearls and looked at other blogs my vision has changed. I have seen how a blog can connect all different types of people. I hope that maybe I can inspire you, and I certainly hope to be inspired by others!

She certainly has inspired me.  Did you see these envelopes?  Next on my project list...
Check out Rubies and Pearls!!!
