DIY Art with Wrapping Paper

Hello.

I had a baby shower for a sweet little baby girl this weekend for a neighbor :) I love baby showers and I love baby shower gift giving! I use coupons, so I was able to score a small stock of diapers, wipes, rice cereal and stage 1 baby food for her :)

Being a mother myself, you ALWAYS NEED more of the essentials :) But its fun to get the cute stuff too.

I decided to make her some cute art for her baby nursery ;) At the Dollar Tree, I saw some gorgeous wrapping papers with lovely floral prints and I snagged several.

Excuse my terrible photo :( lighting right!

Here's what I used:

Various wrapping papers
card stock
glue stick (not pictured)
pencil
scissors
washi tape (not pictured)

I first made a heart template from the card stock. I then measured it to fit a base layer of a pretty patterned wrapping paper. Measure and cut to fit your mat.

Hmm.  Looks like my heart is a bit too big
(I resized the heart template :)

That's better ;)

Trace and cut your heart shape onto another patterned paper.

Got a little carried away and forgot to take some pics of the next few steps.
That creative process, ya know ;)

I added another square layer under the heart, secured with the glue stick and then bordered with a pretty peach washi tape.

I then added the flowered heart in the middle as pictured.

I felt the piece needed some bling, so I cut another smaller heart template and decided to cover in a pretty gold patterned washi tape.

I added strips as seen and let the tape over lap the shape of the heart.

Then cut off the access with the scissors.

I added the bling-y heart with the glue stick and then was ready to mat!

I secured the final piece to the back of the frame mat with masking tape.

All done! My neighbor really liked it :)

Enjoy!

Mini Weaving from my Mini Loom

Hello.

So I shared and built a DIY Mini Loom. Very easy little project that is portable and you can weave on the go!

I decided to try it out tonight and I must say the size is conducive for quick works. However, I think fringe should be eliminated on such small works and you can focus on stitching.

Very easy to start, watch a few episodes of your fav show on Hulu and be on your merry weaving way!

Just remember.... when the yarn strays, the cat will play. ;)

Two episodes of The Voice later and I was done with this cute little addition to a baby girls room :)

Enjoy!

Hoo Hoo loves you baby?

So I've seen so many of the cute little owls everywhere and I decided to try my hand at one.
Perfect reason to make one?  My sweet little niece who loves coming to her Aunt Gigi's house!

Isn't she sweet?
I had some white minky left over from an order and the cutest pale pink paisley fabric!
I thought that would be perfect!

I also had some matching stripped fabric for the eyes and nose and did my first try at applique!
I appliqued everything to the minky, sewed the button eyes on, sewed and stuffed...
...and that's all she wrote.

So stink'n cute!  And soft...I know she'll love it!

Toot Toot Tut

So I saw this at Boy Oh Boy Oh Boy...
and thought, "That is so cute...but I don't have anyone to make one for...?"
(Jack is a little too old and Sam just likes playing with Jacks toys)

Oh well...then yesterday, my boss announces that it was his sons 1st birthday!!
I knew exactly what I wanted to do for little Jackson!

I am so in love with it!
I used blue felt for the window, yellow flannel for the ladder, and white minky fabric in the wheels...
Lots of fun color, pattern, and textures!
Perfect for a 1st Birthday!
You could head over to Boy Oh Boy Oh Boy to see where she got the tut from.
I didn't follow the tut though...just sorta winged it.
What you need:
Coordinating fabrics with color and texture
sewing machine
thread, pins, needle, scissors, etc.

Its very easy:
Step 1:  I cut out a pattern in the basic shape of a fire truck

Step 2:  Cut the fabric - 2 sides for your truck (I will draw out a pattern to post later)

Step 3:  Cut a 2" wide strip of fabric to "wrap" around your truck (make sure its long enough to go ll the way around)

Step 4:  Sew all of your embellishments onto the main side of your truck

Step 5:  Pin the strip of fabric to one side of your truck and sew into place (right side in)

Step 6: Pin the other side of your truck (right side in) to the strip and sew into place.  Leave a hole to turn right side out.

Step 7:  Turn right side out, stuff and whip stitch the hole closed.
All done!
Thanks Stacey for all the inspiration!!!  Can't wait to make another!
Jackson loved the new gift!

Baby Gifts for a Sweet Little Girl

I don't get to make many things for a girl, being the mother of 2 boys...so I really had a lot of fun with these!

I want to get some cute girl print flannel to make a few burp clothes, but that will have to come in a later post.
I love these little taggie blankie's!
I had some fleece I got here and have been waiting for just the right project to use it!  And I made a bunch of my little fabric taggie's for it.

And check out the little taggie ball!
I used all my new fabric!
So cute!

Hope you enjoyed!  If you have any cool baby projects going on, post a comment!  I'm looking for new ideas and inspirations!

A Little Gray

So I was wanting to feature someone today for a number of reasons...one being that I can't find my dumb camera to show off my own stuff...but mainly because I get a fuzzy feeling when I am featured, right?

Why not pass that along to others!?  Especially when there is so much fun stuff to discover!

So here we go!  I browsed thru the blogs I follow and randomly picked out A Little Gray...the cutest little blog with such great stuff to share.  I was actually really excited to "discover" it again!  It was like finding a $20 in your winter jacket!

Check out this cute little zipper bag she made!

She even provides the tut she followed...very helpful.

And you must absolutely check out her Etsy Shop!!!  The cutest little things I have ever seen!
Just check it out!

Very cute!  So please remember to stop by A Little Gray, hang out a bit, leave some comment love, and be sure and tell her SSB sent ya!
