Mini Weaving from my Mini Loom

Hello.

So I shared and built a DIY Mini Loom. Very easy little project that is portable and you can weave on the go!

I decided to try it out tonight and I must say the size is conducive for quick works. However, I think fringe should be eliminated on such small works and you can focus on stitching.

Very easy to start, watch a few episodes of your fav show on Hulu and be on your merry weaving way!

Just remember.... when the yarn strays, the cat will play. ;)

Two episodes of The Voice later and I was done with this cute little addition to a baby girls room :)

Current Crochet Projects

Hello.

I am crocheting away! I've decided to work on at least one crochet project a day :) These include my weaving project, some ear warmers for family, which I have completed, and a few blankets!

Here are some granny squares I have completed and working towards an afgan ;) You can read about learning to make your own granny squares here.

I just finished a baby blanket that my grandmother started and have now began another. It's small - only about the size of a wash cloth but it'll grow!

Weaving progress

Hello.

So I took a short break from my little weaving as I wanted to include a type of wool called roving. It adds beautiful texture to a weaving! However, my local Hobby Lobby didn't have any so I ordered some from Amazon :)

Very soft and fluffy - it creates a cloudy texture on a weaving ;)

Here is my current process on my first weaving.

You can definitely see how the roving looks on the weaving, creating beautiful movement and texture :) It is very simple to weave and looks so sweet. I followed this online class.

DIY Pom Pom Maker

Hello.

So you'll remember that I have recently taken up crochet again and started out with a very simple, beginner level ear warmer with a little crocheted flower.

So many of my lady relatives loved it! So I'm making a few for my cousins :)

Instead of a flower I wanted to add pom pom's. They are so sweet and look adorable! Plus, they are a lot quicker to make than a crocheted flower ;)

What you need for this DIY:

yarn

cardboard

scissors

box cutter

pencil

ruler

I used an old mailer box. Start off by cutting the box open and into a manageable rectangle.

Then measure the length of your template. 

Note: Add one inch to the template for the size of pom pom you want. Eg; 4 inch template for a 3 inch in diameter pom pom.

Make a dot at the middle with the pencil.

Tie a piece of yarn to the pencil, measure two inches from the dot. Hold the end of the yarn down firmly at the dot with your finger. Then draw a half circle from end to end as shown in the diagram.

Then cut it out the half circle with scissors. Next cut a little "v" on the bottom at the dot.

Then cut a piece of yarn about 5 inches long and place horizontally along the bottom.

Then begin wrapping your yarn around the half circle. Like a lot. The more you wrap, the fuller your pom pom is.

Once the template is full of yarn, cut the yarn at the top along the curve. Sorry I forgot to take a picture at this step ;(

Then tie the long horizontal piece tightly in a knot.

Then "shape" the pom pom by cutting pieces that are a little longer than others.

Thread the knot string onto a needle and attach to your hat, etc.

All done and oh so cute :)

Progress on my weaving project

Hello.

So I became interested in weaving and built a DIY loom. It's turned out to be so much fun and actually very simple. I've been adding little by little and learned basic fringe and tackled a triangle.

I'm looking forward to learning new stitches and sharing with you :)

Only draw back is my cat keeps getting into the yarn ;(

However, I came across this idea online, courtesy Crochet Crazy.

Granny Squares

Hello.

So in addition to my new interest in weaving, I have also taken up crochet again. I think I'm turning into a granny already :)

It is tough. So may formulas to learn and remember! I wanted to ease back into crochet and my first project, this winter ear warmer, was an easy one with only a single loop stitch and a quick little flower.

All the ladies in my family loved this and requested ear warmers! Currently working on one for my cousin.

Nevertheless, I wanted to up the anti and try some new formulas. I def needed a referesher on double and triple stitches....

A great beginner crochet project is granny squares. Here is a wonderful online class to follow along and learn to make your own :)

Plus the more you practice, the more squares you end up with and soon you have enough to piece together a blanket :)

Here are a few more that I worked on tonight. It takes about 15-20 minutes for me to complete one square. Eventually, I'll have a nice afgan for my couch :)

DIY Loom

Hello.

I am a big believer in you never stop learning. I love learning new skills. Particularly arts and crafts skills. And I recently started crocheting again - which got me interested in weaving.

I saw this incredible DIY loom here and decided to give it a go. I strongly suggest you check it out, along with the hundreds of other ideas and classes this website has to offer.

Back to the project. If you are a regular artist or crafter, you likely have most of the materials needed to make this loom and weave your first tapestry already. I actually only had to purchase a needle and a dowel. The rest of the materials I had on hand.

I will say I had a few colors of left over yarns from previous projects, but did that stop me from buying some new, gorgeous colors? No it didn't.

Anyways, today I spent about thirty minutes building and preparing my loom and then got to work :)

Once I started the fringe, I moved to my easel ;)

I think this is a good stopping point for today. I'm really looking forward to learning more techniques for weaving and incorporating more wall art like this into my house.
