Repurposed Coffee Carafe into Terrarium

Hello.

So I know I've been coo coo for terrarium's lately as you remember from here and here. There are so sweet and cute! Plus there is potential to re-purpose items, like here :)

I've had this vintage carafe for a couple of years now. It's been on the back porch and has served many purposes, such as watering can to measuring device to even a seashell display.

It is now being re-purposed again for...you guessed it...a terrarium.

Here's what you need:

vintage carafe
natural decor rocks
moss rocks
Spanish moss
few floral sprigs
faux succulent

As you can probably guess, all of these items were purchased at the Dollar Tree. The carafe was a thrift store purchase.

In the end, I decided on a design that included only the decor rock, moss rock and succulent. But you can play with this and come up with so many designs.

First, I filled the bottom with an even layer of the natural decor rocks.

I then nestled a few moss rocks into the decor rock. Lastly, I added the succulent.

Very simple but turned out lovely :)

I soon hope to be adding a sweet bench and side table on my front porch. I hope to set this little terrarium out as well to pair nicely with my succulent wreath.

Enjoy!

Adorable Succulent Wreath

Hello.

After being inspired by the sweet succulent stems at the Dollar Tree, I had a lot of fun making faux succulent arrangements here and here.

And with so many beautiful wreaths I'm seeing, I decided to make one myself.

Isn't it pretty? Very simple and easy to do. Everything was purchased at The Dollar Tree. This project costs me only $6 :)

Enjoy.

In Love with Florals

Hello.

In decorating, every designer has their little tricks for pops of color. Could be pillows, throw blankets, art, etc. Even rugs.

And yes - I use all of the above :)

But I also really enjoys pretty flowers. What better way to add some natural-looking beauty in your home that a lovely vase filled with flowers that never die?!

But being very frugal, I want to pack a color punch without spending a lot of money. Enter the Dollar Tree.

Here is a selection I have in my house - and these are not even all of them. You can see my sweet little DIY Succulent Pot front and center :)

There are several approaches for floral arrangement color schemes but I really appreciate pinks and greens. They are very eye-catching from across a room.

All of these arrangements were made with Dollar Tree floral stems. Most of these are thrift store or gifted vases.

This is my most recent addition. I found this awesome, geo-style, vintage vase at a thrift store for $6. It was a little more than I usually would pay for a vase but I had to have it. I am constantly on the look out for vases and jars to put flowers in.

I added black river rock from DT (Dollar Tree) and some pretty pink, peach and green flowers.

This vase was gifted to me by my mother on Valentines Day a few years ago. I loved the bold pattern and thought smaller blooms would look really cool.

This was an easy DIY project. I bought a small glass jar, stems and decor rock from DT.
I applied contact paper along the bottom in a pattern, applied frosting spray, let dry and then added decor rock and stems.

You can add height and draw eyes up with tall arrangements. A single, bright yellow DT stem in a tall blue bottle adds height next to my Beethoven bust :)

Speaking of busts, I found this adorable vintage flower holder at a thrift store. It even still had the foam in it. Added a few stems and too cute.

Post a comment with your floral projects!

Enjoy.

Succulent Arrangement in DIY Flower Pot

Hello.

I kinda went crazy with the faux succulents. But they are such a sweet and cheerful looking plant, how can one resist?

I decided to make a quick floral arrangement for my kitchen and got everything I needed from the Dollar Tree. And the cost came to about $9 ;)

What you need for this project:

plastic garden pot
various faux succulents
floral moss
floral foam
toothpicks
decorative contact paper
decorative rocks (but I used some from my back garden)

The first thing I did was make a template for the triangle shapes on the pot. I drew it out using a ruler on watercolor paper.

Using the template, I drew and cut out eight triangles from the contact paper and attached them to the pot.

I then stuck the two pieces of foam together using toothpicks and placed them in the pot on top of a couple of Dollar Tree bags to add some height.

I then began to arrange the succulents around the foam.

I took another Dollar Tree plastic bag and tucked in between the foam and sides of pot for stability.
I took floral moss and rocks to fill in the bald spots.

Enjoy.

Tiny Habitat Terreriams

Hello.

I just love these. They are precious. I really enjoy the show Alaska: The Last Frontier and these remind me of the activities of the family and the importance hunting holds for their lifestyle.

And they are just so sweet and cute to look at :)

Very cute and a quick and easy DIY project.

I found the set of tiny toy animals at a garage sale for 25 cents. Total score ;) I then went to the Dollar Tree and snagged some glass vases in various sizes, floral moss, floral styro-foam and a few stems.

I just stuck the feet in the foam, and covered with moss in the vase.
I then added some small floral sprigs as "trees".

If any readers decide to make something similar to this, I sure hope to see the finished product.

Enjoy.

DIY Dollar Tree Terrarium

Hello.

I've been inspired by a Facebook group that is dedicated to Dollar Tree DIY projects. So I went today to look around and see what I could come up with :)

I ended up getting materials for quite a few projects, but today I focused on two - both floral arrangements. Below is the start to finish for a hanging terrarium I did.

Succulents are all the rage - they are cute, romantic looking plants that are very popular in trendy decor :)

I've wanted to add some to my home - but they can be a little pricey and I am wary of having live plants in the house with three cats. So I stick to floral stems in my house. Plus, less watering to do ;)

I was excited to find some plastic, hanging terrarium globes at the Dollar Tree today and thought one would look lovely in my dining nook.

All the materials came from Dollar Tree :) What you'll need for this project:

plastic terrarium globe
white decor rock
cotton string
metal key chain ring
scissors
masking tape

I pulled the little fake potted succulents out and threw the pots away, but you could save them for another project. I also took a minute to place a few in the globe to figure out which ones to use.

I decided I wanted to make the string to hang interesting, so after being inspired by this class, I decided on classic macrame knots.

I started by doubling some string and making a knot. I then secured it to the ring with a slip loop.

I then wrapped string around my arm evenly six times while holding the end firmly.

Then cut the bundle to make six long sections of string.

Loop the sections through the ring in the middle, essentially turning six strings into twelve. Then tape the system to the table to secure while you work.

You'll start your first knot at the top, snug to the ring with a tassel knot.

Starting a few inches down, I decided to add a series of spiral knots.

You'll grab the front four strings, pull the far left string in a number four shape, pull the far right string over and then under all four. Then gently tighten.

Continue this pattern of knot, going only far left to far right, 7 times. And continue on all strings until you have three sections.

I then moved down a few more inches to add some more knots. This time, grabbing strings from different bundles.

I chose to use the longest strings to "knot around" the shorter two in the middle of my new bundle of four.

I continued in this pattern until I had three more sets of seven spiral knots.

Time to attach the terrarium globe! I took three strings from the bottom and tied securely to the globe.

I then added the white decorative rock and two succulents to the terrarium. I love how the loose strings fall around the globe :)

Enjoy.
