A Tale of Two Flippies

First off, I will apologize in advance that there will be no pics with this post (none of mine anyway)...my husband lost the camera...ah huh.

So we will be without a camera until either he finds it (unlikely) or until we can save up enough $$$ to buy a new one (unlikely).

But on to my story.  Its a sad story of two brothers, flip flop one and flip flop two.  They were separated by fate and then reunited unexpectedly!

My husband and I went out to dinner tonight and of course...it started POURING RAIN outside.  I thought my van was going to float away.  We hung as long as we could to wait it out, but Sam was getting impatient.

Oh well, a little rain never hurt anyone.  Tell that to my right flip flop!
In trying to run hobble to the van (my feet sinking into about 4 inches of water) my flip flop was ripped of my foot and carried away...far away, down the parking lot!  So sad.

The one still attached to my foot was heartbroken facing the trash can with out its brother...cuz seriously, what would I do with one flippy?  The other facing a long and lonely life in the storm sewer.

We pulled out of the parking space me scolding my husband for not getting to my shoe fast enough when alas!  A kind stranger got out of his car to rescue my flip flop!!  Yeah!!!!!

Moral of the story...make your husband pull the car up to the door in the event of in-climate weather.

Bath Salt Tutorial!

So I make some pretty yummy bath salts and I wanted to share with you all a great way to make them...super easy and super cheap!  They make awesome gifts!  I like to give them away to new mothers...perfect for relaxing after coming home with new baby!!

The scent I'm sharing with you is a delicious Pure Vanilla.

What you'll need:
--pure vanilla extract
--1 cup Epsom salt (great for sore muscles and $1 at the Dollar Tree)
--wax paper
--decor or mason jar (I've even made samples using baby food jars)
--pretty material for topper

Step 1:  Take a large mixing bowl and add the salt and a tablespoon of vanilla (add more for a stronger scent).

Step 2: Mix well and then lay it thinly out on a sheet of wax paper to dry.  May take 2-5 hours to dry completely.

Step 3:  While salt is drying, measure and cut a circle of decorative fabric to fit the top of your jar.

Step 4:  Fill your jar with the salt (make sure it is fully dry) and secure the fabric around the lid with a rubber band.

Step 5:  Top it off with a cute ribbon to hide the rubber band and all done!  A custom gift hand made by you!

Don't wanna make it?  Click here to shop!

Lots MORE to Share!

So I have a little more to share with you today...first off, I am finally teaching ART!  After all these years, I am actually doing something with my degree.

And though it's still a far cry from my dream job as a college level art history professor...but hey!
I'M TEACHING!!!!

In fact I am an interactive art instructor for the G'nosh Art Studio in Frisco.  Not college courses but still studio time.  I am so excited!!!  Yippee!

Secondly, I had wanted to limit my Mad Skills Monday favs to 4th of July or Americana projects...but I just could not leave a few more of my favs out.
So here I am continuing my Mad Skills features...congrats!

I wanna try making on of these rice warmers from Ponytails and Fish Scales

I really love this tea towel cake from Sweet Little Smoothie...perfect for a wedding shower!

Digg'n these apple bags from Flexible Dreams...would make a trendy diaper bag too.

And last but certainly not least...I am in total love with this egg carton decor from Simpsonized Crafts...so much so that I intend on featuring it again at Appleseed Gifts!
Love the color...love the beads...LOVE IT!

Congrats to everyone who linked up!  I enjoy reading all of your posts and feel honored that you have chosen to share them with me at Mad Skills Monday!

Patriotic Art

So its been a very busy week with work and preparing for this weekend...not to mention my hubby was out of town so I wrangled the kids by my lonesome for 4 days...phew!

But one thing's for sure...we LOVE 4th of July!
So I gave Jack a plate of the signature red/blue colors and let him go to town in creating a snazzy piece of patriotic art!

It has such natural movement!  We love it so much that it hangs in our office!  A artistic tribute to admire all year long...Happy Independence Day!
